MNMT-Dublin Symposium IV:Eye Modeling for Custom Contact Lens and Intraocular Lens Design
by MNMT-Dublin
Prof A. Goncharov was invited to give a seminar on eye modeling for custom contact lens and Intra-ocular lens design on 22nd November. Prof Goncharov proposed that wavefront-based or corneal topography-based procedures assume that a patient’s eye looks like an ideal Gullstrand eye model. For a custom IOL design to be successful, it is necessary to build up a personalised eye model. In principle this could provide not only more accurate IOL power calculation, but also enable one to achieve custom aberration correction in the eye.
Prof A. Goncharov graduated from the Moscow Technical University in Russia in 1999 with specialization in optical engineering. Finished his PhD studies at Lund University, Sweden with the thesis on Extremely Large Telescope Design in 2003. Shortly after he joined the Applied Optics group of Prof Chris Dainty at NUI Galway. His current research is focusing on modeling the optics of the human eye in particular the crystalline lens and its accommodation.
MNMT-Dublin Symposium is a series of events on latest developments of design, manufacturing, metrology, and applications in bio-medical, photonic, optic, and relevant areas organized by UCD Centre of Micro/nano Manufacturing Technology since 2016.
