Professor Fengzhou Fang has over 40 years of experience working in manufacturing science and technology. He was responsible for setting up the Centre of Micro/Nano Manufacturing Technology (MNMT) at Tianjin University in 2005, which is a leading research organization in the field of ultra-precision manufacturing. He has managed a large number of national, international, and industry-funded research projects. His specialist areas of interest include micro/nano manufacturing, optical freeform manufacturing, medical device/implants manufacturing, ultra-precision manufacturing and metrology. Amongst the application areas are in aspheric and freeform optical systems, visual optics,  bio-medical implants, and medical devices. Fengzhou has worked with numerous industrial partners assisting companies to develop their R&D activities. He has published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals, along with 12 book chapters, as well as over 60 patents. He is currently the President of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP) and the editor-in-chief of Nanomanufacturing and Metrology (NMME). He is member of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) and a Fellow of ISNM, CIRP, AET and SME. Fengzhou is also a recipient of the SME Albert M. Sargent Progress Award.
