My research is focused on design and synthesis of biopolymers for ophthalmic applications such as intraocular (IOLs) and contact lenses (CLs). Issues affecting these industries range from manufacturing efficiencies to end-user problems such as the growing myopia crisis (up to 50% of young people). Our aim is to design a highly functional biopolymer for custom lenses to tackle the global myopia problem, which if untreated can lead to many eye-health issues later in life. Improved manufacturing routes can improve the efficiency of the manufacturing process leading to more sustainable practices.
